About Sardogs

Sardogs is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that utilizes the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams. Founded in 2021, Sardogs members have deployed across the United States and around the world to provide immediate relief to those impacted by disasters and humanitarian crises.

Dr. Ralph Abraham

Dr. Ralph Abraham is a practicing physician in northeast Louisiana. He has been a member of medical missions in Afghanistan, South America, Africa, Haiti, the Bahamas and national hurricanes. “Doc” is both a fixed wing and helicopter pilot. He continues to fly for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. As a retired US Congressman, Doc understands the sometimes burdensome tasks of delivering timely aid in times of disaster. To that end, he and others developed Sardogs to be a quick reaction force to those in need.

Dr. Alan Miller

Dr. Alan Miller recently was named as the Executive Director of Sardogs. He brings 35 years of experience in pastoral leadership, non-profit management, pastoral care, behavioral healthcare, addiction treatment and spiritual counseling. His wide background in these areas of public service prepares him for his role in Sardogs. He is a graduate of Louisiana College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He received a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Beeson Divinity School of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama in 1997. He has served as pastor of the Alto Baptist Church in Alto, Louisiana, since 2012. Dr. Miller was endorsed as a chaplain in 2011 by the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Gary Johnston

Gary Johnston is a retired US Army Colonel and with over 30 years of active service. He served as an Engineer Officer with multiple operational deployments to include Iraq (Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom), Nicaragua (Hurricane Mitch Response), Haiti (Hospital and School renovations), and Task Force Hope (Hurricane Katrina Response and Recovery). He has held command positions at the company, battalion and brigade level and retired from the service as the commander of the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC). He is currently employed at the ERDC as a civilian research engineer responsible for developing, planning, and conducting complex civil engineering research in the field force projection and force protection research areas. He holds master’s degrees in Structural Engineering from the University of Maryland and Strategic Studies from the Air War College.

Sidney Ray Hill

Sidney Ray Hill has more than 46 years of experience in plumbing and maintenance. Prior to working for Abraham Farms in maintenance, Sidney spent 37 years as the LA licensed plumber working in maintenance for the Richland Parish School Board. Sidney’s responsibilities included maintaining the plumbing of the school board offices, 11 schools, cafeterias, sports facilities and assisting the electrician and carpenter. Sardogs offers him the opportunity to assist in the aide of communities as needed in the event of disasters that cause severe damage.
